Dr Catriona Hayes

Consultant Dermatologist

At 18 years of age Dr Hayes was awarded a full scholarship to study Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and she graduated with honours in 2007. She undertook postgraduate training in general medicine at the Mater University Hospital in Dublin between 2008-2010, and was subsequently awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom (MRCP UK) after successfully completing the MRCP UK medical examinations.

Dr Hayes has a strong background in medical research. She conducted laboratory-based research to investigate mechanisms of multi-drug resistance in cancer cells, and was awarded a PhD in Biotechnology from the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology (NICB) at Dublin City University in 2015. Her PhD studies encompassed three years working in the research laboratories at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Harvard Institutes of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

In 2017, Dr Hayes applied for the Dermatology Specialist training programme in the UK via the competitive National Training Number UK pathway, and she was delighted to accept her first choice placement on the national dermatology training programme, rotating through Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. She achieved specialist recognition in Dermatology in 2022 and remains on the GMC Specialist Register as a Consultant Dermatologist in the UK. She is an active member of the Merkel cell carcinoma clinical guideline development group with the British Association of Dermatologists.

Dr Hayes has recently also achieved specialist recognition in Dermatology in Australia, and Fellowship with the Australasian College of Dermatologists (FACD) in December 2024. Dr Hayes practices at Dermatology Specialist Group in Ardross and at Hollywood Dermatology. She accepts general dermatology referrals and has sub-specialty interest in skin cancer detection and management, and patch testing.
