There are three common subtypes of hyperhidrosis:
Axillary (armpit) Hyperhidrosis
Axillary hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating in the armpits. It can be triggered by emotional stress, heat, or physical activity and is caused by overactivity of the sympathetic nervous system, which controls automatic body functions like temperature and blood pressure. There may also be a genetic predisposition to this condition.

Hyperhidrosis of the Hands and Feet
Hyperhidrosis affecting the hands and feet (palmar and plantar), often begins in childhood or adolescence and may run in families. Symptoms can worsen with emotional stress or anxiety. The condition shares similar causes with underarm hyperhidrosis, involving overactive sweat glands.
Treatment Options Include:
- Antiperspirants: Aluminum chloride-based antiperspirants can help reduce sweating in mild to moderate cases.
- Iontophoresis: This treatment uses a painless low electrical current in a hand or foot bath to temporarily block sweat glands and provide relief.
- Topical Therapies for severe cases

Generalised Hyperhidrosis
Generalised hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating throughout the body, even during rest. It can be idiopathic (no identifiable cause), or it may be a symptom of hormonal imbalances, infections, certain medications, or underlying medical disorders.
