Dr Nicholas Crane
Dermatology Fellow
Dr Nicholas Crane is a UK-trained adult and paediatric dermatologist. After completing his medical degree, he trained in general medicine and achieved Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom.
He completed his dermatology residency training at The Rupert Hallam Department of Dermatology, based within one of the UK’s largest teaching hospital trusts, where he was awarded a nationally competitive National Institute for Health and Care Research Academic Clinical Fellowship. This included a subspecialty fellowship in cutaneous lymphoma at The Christie in Manchester, Europe’s largest single-site cancer centre, and advanced work in biologic therapies for children’s skin disease at a dedicated children’s hospital. He was elected to the British Association of Dermatologists’ national trainee committee, completed the Specialty Certificate Examination in Dermatology and achieved his UK Certificate of Completion of Training.
Before relocating to Perth, Dr Crane was a Consultant in Adult and Paediatric Dermatology at Wirral University Teaching Hospital and a Specialist Consultant at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool. He was a clinical and educational trainer to dermatology registrars and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education.
Dr Crane has presented at national and international meetings including the Royal Society of Medicine, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology and the British Association of Dermatologists, and his research has been presented at the World Congress of Cutaneous Lymphomas in California. He has authored invited book chapters for international medical textbooks. He is a member of the guideline development group for the British Association of Dermatologists’ national guidelines on primary cutaneous lymphomas. He is an associate editor of the journal Clinical and Experimental Dermatology and has been a sub-investigator on international clinical trials.
Dr Crane cares for children and adults across the full breadth of dermatology, from rashes to moles and skin cancer. He takes time to understand each patient and the impact a skin condition can have on comfort, confidence and daily life. His interests include the diagnosis and management of skin lesions, skin cancer, cutaneous lymphoma, inflammatory skin diseases such as acne, psoriasis and eczema, immunobullous disease, and complex skin conditions.
Dr Crane is currently undertaking a Dermatology Fellowship and progressing towards FACD recognition via the Specialist Pathway.
